Contrary to Hollywood myth, in which the hapless redcoats are easily shot down by wily frontiersmen, their Generals learned to adapt tactics to American conditions and ended up winning most of the battles. In the long-term though, the Americans could more easily replace their own losses and by playing for time wore down the British will to continue the war. It became unwinnable for them once the rebel colonists secured an alliance with France, whose powerful navy and army played a decisive role in the final American victory at Yorktown.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese rules are designed for small affairs, perhaps the sort of engagements between advance and rearguards which often took place before or after the big battles, or the sort of isolated struggle for a key terrain objective which often formed part of a much larger encounter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter the basic rules you will find some suggestions for a more advanced and challenging game.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEach player needs an army, a handful of dice (the ordinary, 6-sided kind) and a ruler or tape measure.
